Search by who they sell to, not by industry code
Industry codes and keywords tell you what a company is. Most lists need something else: who it sells to. We read each company’s own website and record what it provides and who its customers are, so you can search for that directly.
Industry codes and keywords
Industry “Software Development” + keyword “dental”
Thousands of companies, including dental clinics with a website and agencies that build them.
Industry “Financial Services” + size 51–200
Banks, brokers and accountants mixed with fintechs.
Technology “Snowflake”
Anyone whose job ad mentioned Snowflake once.
CompanySpec: who they sell to
“practice management software for independent dental practices”
Software vendors whose customers are dental practices, ranked by how well they match.
“expense management software for mid-market finance teams”
Vendors that sell to finance teams, with their pricing and free-trial details.
vendors: snowflake + “sells to retailers”
Companies that list Snowflake as a subprocessor and sell to retail.
Or start from companies you already know
Give us up to 10 of your best customers. We find companies that do the same thing for the same kind of customer, with a similarity score for each.
Every search can be counted first, for free, so you know how many companies match before you pay for any.
Everything a company says about itself, in one record
For each company we classify the pages on its website and write a short summary of each. Combined with firmographics, hiring and funding, that gives you one record per company.

Where the data comes from
Company websites
We crawl public company websites, classify their pages and summarise them. We never log in or go behind paywalls.
Our own company data
Firmographics, headcount, recent hires, funding, news and job postings.
Source links
Page summaries come with the URL of the page they were written from, so you can check any claim.
Honest about gaps
Not every company has every page. Page summaries cover more than 5 million companies; missing data comes back as null and a missing page is never charged.
Good to know
- ICP, pricing and page summaries are written by an AI model from the company’s own website. They are summaries, not quotes.
- Compliance fields are what a company claims on its website, not verified certifications.
- Data is refreshed periodically, not in real time. New hires usually appear 1–3 weeks after their start date.
- We don’t sell contact data: no personal emails or phone numbers, and recent hires come without names.

What is CompanySpec?
CompanySpec is a company data API. It covers about 20 million companies and lets you search them by who they sell to, in plain English, or look them up by domain. Each company comes with its ICP, pricing summary, page summaries, compliance claims, technologies, headcount, hiring, funding and news.
How does search by who they sell to work?
We write a short ideal-customer-profile paragraph for each company from its own website: what it provides, the problem it solves and who its customers are. Your plain-English query is matched against those paragraphs and re-ranked, and each result gets a match score and a one-line reason. You can combine it with filters like country, size, technologies and compliance.
How accurate are the results?
Every result has a match score from 0 to 1. Very weak matches are never returned, and you can set min_score to keep only strong ones. Summaries are written by an AI model from the company’s website, and page summaries link to the page they came from so you can check them.
What data do you have on each company?
Firmographics (industry, size, revenue range, locations), who they sell to (ICP, customer types and segments), summaries of their pricing, legal, security and compliance, integrations, careers and other pages, technologies and subprocessor vendors, compliance claims, headcount by department, recent hires, funding, news and job postings.
How many companies do you cover?
About 20 million companies, with website page summaries for more than 5 million of them. Not every company has every field; missing data is returned as null.
Where does the data come from?
From public company websites, which we crawl and summarise, and from our own company data for firmographics, headcount, hires, funding, news and job postings. We never crawl behind logins.
How fresh is the data?
Data is refreshed periodically. Recent hires usually appear 1–3 weeks after their start date, headcount history covers the last 12 months, and technologies show when they were first seen and, if removed, when.
Do you sell contact data like emails or phone numbers?
No. This is company data. Recent hires are counted by department and seniority, without names or personal details.
How does pricing work?
Plans include lookups (companies you name) and discoveries (companies we find for you). Each company is charged at most once per billing month, and after that everything about it is free for the rest of the month. Counts are free and there are no overage charges.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The Free plan includes 50 lookups and 10 discoveries a month, with no credit card. Free endpoints like counts and company resolve don’t use your allowance.
Do you have an MCP server?
It’s coming soon. It will use the same API keys and plans. Until then, agents can call the REST API, and the docs are available as Markdown and llms.txt.
How is this different from other company data APIs?
Three things: you can search by who a company sells to instead of only by industry codes and keywords; you get summaries of what a company publishes on its own website, like pricing, security and subprocessors; and each company is charged once a month no matter how often you ask about it.
Can I correct or remove my company’s data?
Yes. Email support@companyspec.com from an address at your company’s domain and tell us what to correct or remove.
